About Zborów Nature Reserve

Zborów Nature Reserve, located in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship of southern Poland, is a remarkable geological and ecological site famous for its distinctive Jurassic-era limestone rock formations. The reserve covers an area characterized by rocky cliffs, caves, and outcrops that rise from the surrounding forested landscape, creating an intriguing terrain that attracts geologists, hikers, and nature lovers alike. The reserve belongs to the Ojców National Park buffer zone but is managed as a separate protected area focused on preserving its unique karst features and the diverse plants and animals inhabiting its rocky niches and mixed woodlands. Established in 1962, Zborów preserves several rare calcareous flora species and provides a habitat for bats, birds, and small mammals. Visitors can explore the natural stone labyrinths, various caves, and the mysterious rock labyrinth known locally as „Labirynt Skalny.” The reserve’s trails offer moderate hikes that skillfully combine adventure and natural history interpretation. Hiking here also provides spectacular views of the surrounding Silesian Highlands, with photographic opportunities and birdwatching. The reserve’s proximity to Kraków and other cultural landmarks makes it an accessible day trip destination for outdoor enthusiasts interested in nature, geology, and Polish landscape history. Education and conservation efforts focus on protecting the fragile karst formations from erosion and human impact while promoting sustainable visitor use.
